As a result of the recent attacks in the Middle East, thousands gathered for a peaceful protest at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle. The protest was organized as a way to express opposition to the escalating violence, prompt the Israeli government to reconsider their plans for a full scale ground assault in Northern Gaza, and to shift attention towards restoring rights and providing humanitarian aid to those affected in the region.
Those who gathered at the protest expressed many concerns regarding the ongoing Middle East conflict including how the war could begin to fuel Islamophobia, antisemitism, and possible hate crimes, in our area. In response, Seattle, and neighboring law enforcement agencies reassured both Muslim and Jewish communities that they are prepared to respond to any incidents and ensure security for future demonstrations and rallies.
To promote this event, organizers shared the event online under the name “Out, for Palestine.” They called on attendees to show their support for the people of Gaza and Palestine and to push for an end to what they described as the “burdens of Zionism.”
The demonstration ended peacefully highlighting the protesters dedication to addressing the ongoing conflict through nonviolent methods.
